Announcing Our 2023 Summit Day 2 Keynote – Taj Suleyman

In November Empower Missouri will host its annual Anti-Poverty Advocates Summit, bringing together advocates from across the state to explore the many ways poverty impacts our neighbors’ lives, and how effective policy change can serve as a long-term solution. We’re excited to welcome Taj Suleyman to give our Tuesday keynote!

About Taj

Taj Suleyman is a passionate advocate and the esteemed Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the City of Springfield, Missouri. As a global nomad and Third Culture Kid/person (TCK), Taj’s personal upbringing in diverse international environments ignited a profound intercultural awareness from a young age. Born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, to a Sudanese father and a Saudi Arabian mother, Taj’s multicultural background has deeply influenced his commitment to fostering understanding and inclusivity.

As a dedicated scholar-practitioner, Taj focuses on intercultural and social justice theoretical frameworks, employing them to gain valuable insights into negotiation processes among different cultures. His work with local governmental agencies has been instrumental in enhancing training models, ensuring they meet the unique needs of diverse communities and cultivating strong relationships among stakeholders.

Taj’s academic achievements include a Master’s degree in Intercultural Relations from the esteemed University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, in conjunction with the prestigious Intercultural Communication Institute in Portland, Oregon. His academic pursuits reflect his unwavering dedication to understanding and addressing the complexities of intercultural dynamics.

Beyond his role as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Taj serves as an associate facilitator in personal leadership methodology and holds certification from the Connective Leadership Institute. He is also a Certified Trainer in the esteemed Global Dexterity Method, a testament to his expertise in facilitating global interactions with finesse and cultural competence.

With over two decades of experience working in diverse roles within non-profit organizations, Taj has been a pivotal force in empowering the integration of refugees, immigrants, and individuals with disabilities into the fabric of U.S. society. Through his tireless efforts, he has helped individuals thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Taj’s spirit of service extends beyond his professional pursuits as he volunteers with the American Red Cross, serving on their national disasters’ response team. His commitment to providing aid and support during times of crisis exemplifies his dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of those in need.

For over 120 years Empower Missouri has brought together a team of anti-poverty advocates to learn together, make connections, and advance our mission. Our 2023 Anti-Poverty Advocates Summit will be held on November 6th and 7th at the Stoney Creek Hotel in Columbia, Missouri. Early Bird tickets are now on sale for just $99, a savings of $50!
