For nearly 100 years, one of the cornerstones of Empower Missouri’s model was regional councils. Historically, Empower Missouri was a membership organization, composed of 8-15 regional chapters across the state (fluctuating over the decades) that investigated local issues stemming from state or federal policies, educated their communities about policy issues, and brought potential solutions to local leaders.
In 2026, Empower Missouri is relaunching that model through our Local Councils. Currently focused in several rural communities in southern Missouri, our hope is that we can build a network of leaders throughout the state, and bring those voices together and to the Capitol to drive policy change to eradicate poverty. Councils will receive 6-months of training to launch, and ongoing support from both the Empower Missouri team and a dedicated group of local leaders in each location.
