Joplin Council

In 2026 Empower Missouri is launching a Local Council program to bring leaders and community members together, lift up voices from all corners of the state, and drive more people-powered policy change! The mission of the Joplin Council is to develop leaders, strengthen community capacity, facilitate community-driven solutions, and ultimately create pathways for long-term systems change that will improve the lives of everyone in the Joplin area.

Councils will gather monthly to:

• Build cross-sector partnerships that improve coordination across food systems, housing, justice, healthcare, education, economic development, and more
• Align resources and expertise to maximize community impact
• Ensure local voices are guiding local solutions
• Inform state-level policy that will improve conditions in the Joplin area
