Check out our Q&A with Board Member Katheryne Staeger-Wilson below. Thank you for being a vital part of Empower Missouri, Katheryne!
How did you first hear about Empower Missouri, and what inspired you to get involved?
I was involved with Empower Missouri back when it was known as the Missouri Association for Social Welfare. Since that time, Empower Missouri has evolved to be one of the most dynamic organizations in Missouri. Being a disability advocate, the work Empower Missouri does intersects with the policy work I do. The organization is the go-to place to learn what is happening and why the work is so important to everyone. Empower Missouri is the most knowledgeable leader for policy change. And, they have the information and tools to help me create systemic change. I love the support Empower Missouri provides.
What accomplishment are you most proud to have been a part of?
My proudest accomplishment is having the opportunity to serve on the board of directors. I have had the privilege to be a part of the meaningful work led by Empower Missouri. As a board member I have contributed to the vision and strategic planning of the organization. The increase in staff and the overall growth of the Empower Missouri has been phenomenal to witness. I am honored to be a part of it.
What goal do you see Empower Missouri achieving in the next 5 years?
The passing of Clean Slate legislation. It’s going to happen. Empower Missouri has done an exceptional job educating people about this policy and testifying for the legislation. It is bi-partisan policy that makes sense. When people are barred from fully participating in society and our economy, we all lose out.
Note: Missouri became the 14th state to pass Clean Slate legislation at the end of the 2026 session!
Describe Empower Missouri in three words.
Smart, Progressive, Action.
