Congratulations to the 2022 Affordable Housing Advocate of the Year!

Empower Missouri is renewing the tradition of recognizing the hard work of outstanding anti-poverty advocates across the state at our annual Advocacy Awards Brunch, to be held on Saturday, June 11th, at 11AM at the Piper Palm House in St. Louis. (The 2023 brunch will be held in Kansas City.) We have an exciting group of awardees to be honored. Today we’re highlighting the Affordable Housing Advocate of the Year, Glenn Burleigh.

About Glenn Burleigh

Glenn Burleigh has been Equal Housing and Opportunity Council (EHOC)’s Community Engagement Specialist since 2015. Glenn was born in Pine Bluff, AR and came to live in St. Louis while attending Saint Louis University. He has spent many years working for progressive organizations, including The Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition, SEIU, CWA, and ACORN. Glenn’s focus at EHOC is using communications and coalition work to raise awareness of the public’s rights under fair housing and lending laws. Glenn also staffs the St. Louis Equal Housing and Community Reinvestment Alliance (SLEHCRA), St. Louis’ Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) coalition of which EHOC was a founding member organization. SLEHCRA is the state’s largest CRA advocacy coalition and works to expand access to mainstream financial services in the St. Louis metro’s low-to-moderate income communities and communities of color.

From the Nominator:

Glenn is a fierce housing legal advocate who regularly attends Affordable Housing Coalition calls and activities. He worked to secure an eviction moratorium during the pandemic, works to advance fair housing in the state, and has been engaged in ways to reduce energy costs for low income renters. Glenn does outreach for EHOC, working to enforce fair housing and fair lending laws in the region.
