2023 Week of Action

The Missouri legislative session is heating up, and it is critical that our voices are heard in Jefferson City. Please join us April 3rd – April 6th for our 2023 Week of Action! On April 3rd, 4th, and 6th, spend your lunch hour with us to build your advocacy skills and learn about key anti-poverty policies in our three priority areas, food security (Monday), criminal justice reform (Tuesday), and affordable housing (Thursday). On Wednesday, April 5th, join us at the capitol to put those skills in action and make your voice heard!

  • Skill Building: Communicating with Missouri Legislators About Poverty
  • Issue Education: Food Security – Transitional Benefits Program
Tuesday, April 4th, 12:00-1:00PM (Virtual Session)
  • Skill Building: Researching a Bill’s Impact
  • Issue Education: Criminal Justice Reform – Diversion Programs
Wednesday, April 5th, 10:00AM-3:00PM (In-Person Advocacy Day at the Missouri State Capitol)
  • Join Empower Missouri staff and other advocates to observe hearings, meet with legislators, and learn more about anti-poverty advocacy. A full schedule for the day will be announced soon.
Thursday, April 6th, 12:00-1:00PM (Virtual Session)
  • Skill Building: Staying in Touch with Your Lawmaker
  • Issue Education: Affordable Housing – Circuit Breaker Tax Credit

Sessions are structured so that you will learn something new each day, but attendance is not required on each day to participate. Together, we can take action to advance evidence-based public policies to end poverty in Missouri!
