Please Meet Our Newest Team Member – Chris Morrison

Hi! My name is Chris Morrison. I have always had a desire to make an impact on the world around me. Throughout my career in the non-profit sector, I have had a goal to leave each person that I’ve worked with in a better state than before. I’m proud to say that in my entire life I have been an advocate, fighting for the basic human rights of our fellow citizens. I’m humbly honored to join the team of Empower Missouri as its Criminal Justice Policy Manager. Since the organization’s inception, Empower has consistently been a powerful voice in Missouri advocating for the less fortunate. Empower’s vision is simple, a Missouri in which all people have food, shelter, and justice.

I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, I grew up watching friends and family fall victim to an unjust criminal justice system. I witnessed the struggle of those who had paid their debts to society, attempted to return to a normal life, and be a productive member of their community, only to face tremendous obstacles and end up back in the “system.” While attending Central Missouri State University (University of Central Missouri), I obtained a bachelor’s in Criminal Justice. My passion was to right the wrongs that I had witnessed as a youth and help those who faced similar situations.

I spent the majority of my professional career in the area of juvenile justice. The beginning of my career was spent working directly with at-risk youth and / or their families to accomplish goals that would have long lasting benefits for their family units. As time progressed, I began writing policy and procedure to address the basic needs, ensure safety, and to promote the health and wellness of those same families. As the Criminal Justice Policy Manager, I will work tirelessly to coordinate with our partners, to fulfill Empowers values, mission, and goals. I look forward to spreading our message and advocating for change that all Missourians can benefit from.

In Solidarity,

Chris Morrison
Criminal Justice Policy Manager
