Eviction Court: A Right to Counsel Community Learn-In

Connect and learn with us this month as we work toward making sure that Missourians of all ages can access safe and affordable homes! Join Empower Missouri, Community Partnership of the Ozarks, Legal Services of Southern Missouri, Ozarks Alliance to End Homelessness, and Springfield Tenants Unite for a Community Learn-In in Springfield, MO.

Every year, thousands of Springfield families face eviction court — most without a lawyer by their side. What does that mean for our neighbors, and what would change if every tenant facing eviction had a Right to Counsel?

Join us on Saturday, September 27, 2025, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at National Avenue Christian Church (1515 S National Ave) for an interactive community teach-in. Together we’ll:

  • Watch mock eviction trials that show what court looks like with and without legal representation
  • Learn how a Right to Counsel could make Springfield more fair, stable, and just
  • Volunteer to step into the role of a tenant in our mock trial and experience what eviction court feels like firsthand
  • Connect with neighbors and take action to bring this policy to life in our city

This event is free and open to the public. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and your commitment to housing justice. Refreshments will be provided; please RSVP using the form below to let us know you’re coming!
