Did you know that September is Hunger Action Month? Led by Feeding America, Hunger Action Month is an annual nationwide campaign to spread awareness and inspire action to end hunger in America. In Missouri 1 in 9 people, and 1 in 8 children, face hunger, and we hope you’ll take action with us!

Four Ways to Fight Hunger This Month

Help Spread the Word!

Use our toolkit to help build awareness about hunger in Missouri, and what we can do to solve it! Download ideas and graphics here, or follow us on social media to easily share our posts. Some key points to share:

  • 1 in 8 Missouri children will face hunger.
  • 12% of Missourians are living in food insecure households.
  • Black children are almost 3 times more likely to face hunger than white children.
  • Only 1 out of every 20 bags of groceries that feed food insecure households comes from charitable organizations, the rest is provided by programs like SNAP.

Tell Congress to Protect SNAP and other Anti-Hunger Programs in the 2023 Farm Bill!

Approximately every five years, Congress reauthorizes the Farm Bill. Title IV, the “nutrition title,” authorizes several federal nutrition programs, including The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is our nation’s first line of defense against hunger. It is essential that this year’s Farm Bill protect and strengthen SNAP!

Use the FRAC Action Network to quickly and easily contact your Member of Congress and urge them to support Farm Bill priorities that would protect and enhance SNAP.

Join us for Advocacy 101 + Food Security 101!

Sign up for this webinar on September 7th to learn how to be a more effective advocate to end hunger! The first hour of each session will be spent familiarizing ourselves with the legislative process in Missouri and learning how we can impact policy change to end poverty. The final 30 minutes of the 11:00AM-12:30PM session will be training geared specifically towards food security advocacy. Register on our website (or check out our other sessions if you are interested in our Affordable Housing or Criminal Justice Reform work).

UPDATE: This event has passed, but watch our social media and our events page for our next session!

Join the Food Security Coalition!

Our Food Security Coalition is a multi-sector team of dedicated advocates working to ensure that every Missourian, especially children, can access sufficient nutritious food. We believe that key policy changes can help decrease the burden on the nonprofit sector by improving access to government-run social safety net programs, improving job training opportunities and pushing for living wages that allow families to afford adequate food, and eliminating food deserts in rural communities around the state.

We meet monthly on Zoom, with our next meeting coming up on Friday, September 8th at 9-10AM. Click HERE to view our events page to see more upcoming meetings. Join us to see how you can help advocate for policies that will end hunger in Missouri!
