Housing Comes First: Why We Must Solve Our Affordable Housing Crisis Presentation

On Thursday, October 15th, Empower Missouri held a webinar to discuss local, state and national housing policy. Empower Missouri was joined by Brooke Schipporeit from the National Low-Income Housing Coalition, Marqueia Watson from The Greater Kansas City Coalition to End Homelessness and Matt Ampleman from the Legal Services of Eastern Missouri (LSEM). Our panelists focused on the new developments on emergency rental assistance in coronavirus relief packages, the connection between housing and other life outcomes (health and mental health, employment, educational options), and the CDC moratorium and what tenants have to do to have protection from eviction.

With the pandemic stressing our already inadequate resources related to affordable housing, it is our hope that many more advocates will be brought into justice-making related to this most basic of human needs.

Please consider joining our upcoming November 20th Racial Equity Summit. Thanks to the generous support of Maxine Clark and Bob Fox, registration for the Summit is free for all attendees.
