Propósito
The Affordable Housing Intern will work alongside Empower Missouri’s team to support
advocacy, education, and organizing efforts aimed at expanding access to safe, affordable
housing across the state. Our work focuses on advancing policies that protect tenants, increase
housing stability, and address the systemic barriers that make housing unaffordable for many
Missourians.
In this role, you’ll contribute to community outreach, policy research, coalition-building, and
public education efforts that support change at both the state and local level. This is a great
opportunity for someone interested in housing justice, public policy, and grassroots advocacy.
What You’ll Do
● Help plan, promote, and support town halls, community forums, and educational events
related to housing and tenant rights
● Connect with tenants, community members, and housing advocates to support outreach
efforts
● Participate in tabling and outreach events to share information about Empower Missouri’s
housing work
● Research opportunities to expand engagement with impacted communities
● Conduct research on affordable housing policies at the state and local level
● Write policy briefs, fact sheets, and other materials on key housing issues
● Help prepare and submit testimony and attend hearings or city council meetings as
needed
● Support coordination and logistics for the Affordable Housing Coalition
● Assist with partner communication and relationship-building
● Help track volunteers and support advocacy efforts
● Maintain organized records of outreach, events, and campaign progress
What We’re Looking For
● Basic understanding of housing issues and systems in Missouri.
● Commitment to housing justice + Empower Missouri’s mission and values.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
● Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
We strongly encourage people who are currently tenants or who have lived experiences with
unstable or unaffordable housing to apply.
Time Commitment
● 15 hours per week (flexible schedule).
● Availability for some meetings between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
● Ability to work remotely, with occasional travel to support in-person events or advocacy
efforts in Mid-Missouri and the state capitol.
COMPENSATION
● $15.00/hour
