Position Title: Community Representative
Position Summary: The Missouri Rural Food Access Partnership (MRFAP) seeks passionate and engaged community members to serve as Community Representatives on our advisory board.
This role offers a meaningful opportunity to advocate for improved nutrition security in
rural Missouri, share local perspectives, and help shape initiatives that strengthen the
state’s food systems.
Our goal is to build a stronger food system for every community in Missouri by
maximizing the existing resources and strengths. Community Representatives are
essential partners in achieving this mission.
In addition to guiding MRFAP’s work, representatives will help identify individuals in their
communities who can be interviewed for community profiles that highlight the local food
system’s resources and challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent the needs and perspectives of your community related to nutrition security and food access.
- Attend and actively participate in three in-person meetings annually and monthly online meetings during other months.
- Share personal and community experiences to help guide MRFAP programs and strategies.
- Collaborate with local residents, organizations, and stakeholders to strengthen the food system.
- Help identify barriers to nutrition security and suggest practical, community-based solutions.
- Assist with outreach and engagement efforts to ensure diverse community voices are heard.
- Identify individuals for a media story about your community’s food system.
- Participate in training and support activities to engage in local and state advocacy efforts to strengthen Missouri’s food system.
Qualifications:
- Resident of a rural Missouri community with experience navigating food and nutrition access challenges.
- Passionate about ensuring all Missourians have access to nutritious, affordable food.
- Comfortable sharing stories and encouraging others to share theirs.
- Willing to collaborate with people from various backgrounds and experiences.
- No formal education or professional experience required—lived experience is highly valued.
Commitment & Support
- Meetings: 3 in-person meetings per year (locations may vary) and monthly online meetings.
- Time Commitment: 1–2 hours per month outside of meetings, as needed.
- Compensation: $50 monthly stipend for active participation.
- Travel Support: A gas card will be provided to offset travel expenses for in-person meetings.
- Advocacy Training: MRFAP will provide training and support to help representatives engage in effective local and state-level advocacy.
- Term: Through June 2027, dependent on continued grant funding.
