Empower Missouri is growing, and we’re excited to introduce you to several new team members over the coming weeks. Today let’s hear from Amber Foster-Hobart, our new Communications Director:
I am thrilled to be joining the team at Empower Missouri at such an exciting time of growth for the organization. As the Communications Director, I will be managing our communications strategy and platforms, including our website and social media, and working with our policy and fundraising teams to engage Missourians throughout the state in Empower’s mission to advocate for basic human needs and equal justice for every person in our state.
I have spent most of my career so far working in communications and fundraising in the education sector. While I still believe that education is one of the biggest and best tools that we have to change an individual’s life for the better, I’ve come to see that while nonprofit organizations providing direct services to the community are fulfilling critical needs in our society, they alone cannot address the systemic causes of inequity. At the core, inequity is caused by unjust policies put in place to benefit those in power instead of those in need, and changing those policies is the best way to build a better future for us all.
In the weeks ahead I’m looking forward to meeting many of you and working with Empower’s incredible group of coalition members and supporters. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of this team, working together to protect the most vulnerable members of our community.
