The Missouri legislative session is heating up, and it is critical that our voices are heard in Jefferson City. Please join us April 3rd – April 6th for our 2023 Week of Action! On April 3rd, spend your lunch hour with us to build your advocacy skills and learn about key anti-poverty policies in one of our priority areas, food security. This year, we’ll be focusing on how to communicate with legislators, and learning about transitional benefits programs.
SB 82 and HB 719 will create a state funded transitional benefit program which allows families to step down from the assistance they receive through public benefits (like child care assistance or SNAP) gradually as their incomes increase, instead of the cliff effect that our public benefit programs currently have. Currently, when a family goes over the income limit for a benefit, even by just a small amount, they completely lose the benefit. Oftentimes, this sudden drop of benefits ends up making a family worse off financially than if they refused the pay increase. In this virtual session, we’ll learn more about the transitional benefits program and how to advocate for the passage of SB 82 and HB 719.
