SB 888 passed the Missouri Senate in the middle of the night last Wednesday. This bill would make significant changes to both our state’s sentencing structure and certain processes for youth in custody, leading to more people in prison for longer. The legislature’s non-partisan experts estimate that this will result in $25 million dollars more per year in prison costs plus almost $1 billion for a new prison!
Missouri should not be wasting state resources on a $1,000,000,000 prison at a time when the Missouri legislature is proposing cuts to healthcare, higher education, daycare, and other essential programs.
SB 888 will now be voted on in the Missouri House of Representatives. Please use this form to urge your Missouri Representative to vote no on building a new prison.
