Clean Slate Intern

PURPOSE

The Clean Slate Intern will support Empower Missouri’s leadership role in the Missouri Clean Slate Campaign, a state-wide campaign to pass automated expungement legislation in Missouri. The Clean Slate Intern will assist with policy research, organizing campaign events, and other activities as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with planning, promoting, and hosting town hall events for the Clean Slate campaign
  • Research event opportunities for Clean Slate outreach
  • Take part in tabling events or outreach events to educate the community about Clean Slate and Empower Missouri
  • Connect campaign volunteers with volunteer opportunities and assist with volunteer management
  • Assist with Clean Slate working group meetings as needed
  • Write policy briefs on Clean Slate or other criminal justice issues as assigned
  • Submit testimony in the capitol for Clean Slate as needed

REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic understanding of the criminal justice system
  • Candidates who have been personally impacted by Missouri’s criminal justice system are preferred
  • A commitment to social justice + Empower Missouri’s mission and values
  • Effective written and oral communication skills

TIME COMMITMENT

  • 15-20 hours per week, flexible schedule
  • Position has a rolling start date, but must end by May 2023
  • Availability for some meetings between the hours of 9AM-5PM, Monday-Friday
  • Ability to work remotely with the opportunity for some travel as necessary to support events or actions at the state capitol

COMPENSATION

$11.15/hour
