The 2016 Legislative Session begins on January 6, 2016, and we once again find Missouri in the unenviable position of having the worst payday loan regulations in the U.S. when it comes to consumer protections. Customers may legally be charged more than 1900% APR.
On Thursday, December 10, 4:30-5:30 p.m., the Empower Missouri Economic Justice Task Force (EJTF) will meet for updates on our 2016 goals. We will also be briefed on the payday loan situation in Missouri and nationally by Molly Fleming. Some positive developments are happening at both levels, and your advocacy can make an important difference as we stand together against this injustice.
Fleming leads the PICO National Network’s faith-based campaign to end predatory payday lending across ten states. She represents PICO on the steering committee for Faith for Just Lending, a multi-denominational coalition committed to ending usury in America. A community organizer in Missouri for nearly six years, Molly has led statewide ballot initiative campaigns for economic dignity and supported collaborative organizing across the grassroots organizing spectrum.
