Empower Missouri stands with the Food Research and Action Center ( FRAC) and opposes the House Education and Workforce Committee’s Child Nutrition Bill
Empower Missouri has been advocating for over a year on the Reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Bill. This bill is the piece of legislation that reauthorizes all of the federal child nutrition programs, including the School Breakfast, National School Lunch, Child and Adult Care Food, Summer Food Service, and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Programs and WIC
On Wednesday, April 20th the House Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill (pdf) was introduced by Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN), chairman of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, on behalf of the majority on the House Education and Workforce Committee.
This bill would roll back years of progress. Countless children would no longer be able to access the nutritious meals they need for their health and learning, and the meals children could still obtain would be less healthy.
Ask your Members of Congress to weigh in immediately with Chairman Kline, Subcommittee Chairman Rokita, and other members of the House Education and Workforce Committee with their opposition to the bill. Additionally, if you have a Member that sits on the House Education and Workforce Committee (see the full list of members), ask them to:
- Vote for and speak out in support of amendments that could strengthen the programs (e.g. an amendment to strike the harmful CEP provision); and
- Vote “no” on final passage of this bill.
