Empower Missouri’s Criminal Justice Task Force along with many of its allies in the “Second Chance Coalition” worked very hard in the 2015 Legislative Session to move Senate Bill 44 forward. SB 44 was dubbed “Ban the Box” by some and also “The Second Chance Bill.” It would remove the questions about felony convictions from job applications to give ex-offenders a greater chance to be interviewed. Additional job interview process changes were called for to make hiring more fair for those who had served their time and who were qualified for a job.
This Second Chance Coalition thanks Sen. Jamilah Nasheed for her valiant attempt to get this bill passed. Our coalition will continue to work on this bill in the 2016 Legislative Session. To be ready for pre-filing season in our State Capital, the time to come together is now, so we are convening a strategy meeting on:
Monday, July 27th from 10:30 am-3:30pm
At Second Presbyterian Church
4501 Westminster Place

Lunch will be provided!
